1. The video titled “The Keys to Laboratory Safety” was shown.

2. The schedule for the 2006/2007 lab inspections was presented. At this point the schedule is as follows:

3. EH&S Report –Mike Labosky

• Cambridge Fire Dept discussion of decontaminating injured staff -  More to come.  For now communicate to FD extent of contamination, actions taken and give them an MSDS for material.
• ChemTracker implementation has started.  EPS and Hoffman is first, we are working closely with Paul Kelley.  We will have a web page up and more information shortly.
• Lab Safety Review - Carbon Nanotube Growth Furnace – DEAS
• Helium high background investigation - Lyman – Physics
• Paint and H2S Odor/Monitoring/Cleanup of Sewage Pit - Lyman – Physics
• Review of monitoring instruments for compressed gas delivery and emergency response - CNS

4. EH&S - Report

• The Hoffmann Building had a successful fire drill. If other building managers want to do drills before the end of the year, contact EH&S.
• The fire department does not like obstructions in corridors. The Physics department is working on making recessed areas for vending machines.

5. Hazardous Waste Training Report –  No major problems with hazardous waste disposal although several labs in DEAS need to do a better job. This months major problems areas were:

• ESL 323 (Scot Martin’s Lab) on October 12, 2006 2:15 pm
  8 waste containers did not have the hazard boxes checked. Two instances of more than one waste container that had the same waste stream.
• 60 Oxford Street room 412 (Samuel Lab) October 12, 2006 1:56 pm
  Three hazard boxes not checked and four labels were marked with chemical formulas not in words.
• Gordon McKay Labs room 509 (Howard Stone’s Lab) October 23, 2006 9:03 am
  Three hazard boxes not checked and two labels were marked with chemical formulas not in words.

6. Old Business

• Laser Eye Exams- There is still no definitive word from UHS if they will give the exam, and if so, what it will cost.
