Ed Jackson asked whether we have a way to measure oxygen in a confined space that has no ventilation. Lenny said that anyone who has such a space should let him know--he will have it inspected and test to make sure it is safe.

Lenny reminded the group that he sent an email to everyone about Select Agents--he did not get many responses, so he assumes we do not have any Select Agents. He asked who is working with biochemicals. Iva Maxwell said they use bovine cells and wanted to know if that counted as a Select Agent. Lenny said she should fill out the Select Agent form. Perhaps it should be refered to Ron Morales (EH&S), even though it isn't a Select Agent.
Haz Mat Shipping - Lenny also wanted to remind the committee of Federal laws on shipping hazardous materials. The FAA wants us to be aware that when we fly, there are many things we cannot take along in our luggage. The FAA gave Lenny a poster which illustrates these items: Lenny said we should all post it in our lab areas as a reminder. You can view a PDF file of the poster by clicking on an icon that is on the homepage of our website or by clicking on this link: http://www-safety.deas.harvard.edu/services/hazmatFED.pdf
Rob read a list of names that need retraining.
Ed Jackson reminded us that there is now a new construction area behind McKay which has taken up space that had been designated as an emergency evacuation meeting area. We need a new emergency assembly space for the McKay labs.
