Lenny reminded the Safety Committee that we have many safety videos available for viewing.
Lenny reported the following dates of scheduled lab inspections:
The results of the upcoming inspections will be reported to the Safety Committee in February, and March. Each team chairperson will also e-mail a copy of the report to Lenny Solomon.
Team # 6 - Maxwell Dworkin: whereas Robert Graham was not present at the meeting, Lenny read Bob's inspection report to the Committee. Graham noted that the Maxwell-Dworkin building was very recently constructed, therefore many labs are still being equipped, which may include safety-related signage. He wrote that there is little indication of emergency exit information posted near lab areas, although the building's main directory does provide a clear map of the site. He also noted that there are currently no satellite accumulation areas.
Lenny also told the Committee that we are in the process of adding the floor plans of Maxwell-Dworkin to the emergency evacuation pages on the web site. This task should be done within a few weeks.
(a) Y2K - Peter said there were no Y2K related issues at Harvard on or around New Year's Day.
(b) Peter Bochnak announced that he will be leaving Harvard in February. Lenny thanked him for his help on the Safety Committee and at Harvard, and the Committee members gave him a round of applause.
Rob Stanhope (Safety Coordinator) reported three people who need retraining in January.
(a) SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) - Lenny said the units have arrived. A training date will be determined soon.
(b) Multimedia workstation from Intel - Lenny told the Committee that the multimedia workstation from Intel will arrive tomorrow (Wednesday, 1/13/2000). We will use this workstation to create the digital video for the laser safety online training.
(c) Safety Seminars 2000 - Lenny said he will be making plans and schedules for the annual series of safety seminars. If any safety reps are interested in helping with the seminars, they should contact Lenny.
