TYPE OF RESEARCH: Optics, electromagnetics.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING THAT MUST BE USED FOR ALL WORK:

GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING RULES:

  1. Solvents should be stored on lab benches only when in active use; otherwise store in storage cabinet.
  2. Avoid clutter.

WASTE DISPOSAL RULES:

Store waste solvent in tagged container housed in tray.

FUME HOOD USE: N/A

CHEMICAL STORAGE:

Flammable liquids stored in cabinet. (No acids or bases.)

SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIRED:

Training mandatory for machine-shop use and for use of open lasers.

CHEMICAL SPILL CLEAN-UP PROCEDURES:

  1. Clean up small spills. Location of nearest spill kit: Room 323.
  2. For large spills, clear the area of personnel and cll the University Operations Center (5-5560).

OTHER RELEVANT COMMENTS:

  1. Operate laser in Room 407A only with door shut.
  2. Always "ask first" before attempting to take any action that might be hazardous.
