PROTECTIVE CLOTHING THAT MUST BE USED FOR ALL WORK:
GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING RULES:
Clean up your area before leaving each day. Floors should be broom clean.
WASTE DISPOSAL RULES:
Biological tissues should go to the freezer in the rodent housing facility in the basement of Biolabs. Otherwise, follow University rules regarding chemical and other waste disposal.
FUME HOOD USE:
The fume hood should be used for all operations involving volatile chemicals, including perfusion and gas anesthesia.
CHEMICAL STORAGE:
There is a flammable chemical storage cabinet in room 325. Corrosives should be stored in secondary containment in the hood.
SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIRED:
Shop course required to use drill press and other power tools.
CHEMICAL SPILL CLEAN-UP PROCEDURES:
Small spills should be cleaned up by those in the lab. The location of our spill kit is in the cabinet over the sink.
OTHER RELEVANT COMMENTS:
Always "ask first" before attempting to take any action that might be hazardous.
