If you work with or plan to be working with lasers, you will benefit from viewing these training videos. Even if you are experienced with laser safety, we recommend that you refresh your knowledge by watching these laser safety lectures by Professor Eric Mazur (Physics Department, Harvard University). The lectures presented in these videos were taped during our 1999 and 2000 Safety Seminar series.
Each video takes about 12-16 minutes to watch. We have provided a very brief quiz that you can take to see if you have absorbed the material.
The videos are QuickTime movies (Fast Start progressive download). If they do not start within 10 seconds of page load, you might need to upgrade your browser/Quicktime plugin.
The EH&S training is only given once every other month. If you just missed that training and are called upon to work in the lab with hazardous lasers before the next session, viewing these videos first makes a great deal of sense and you are urged to do so. However, please realize that you still must attend the EH&S lecture.
For additional information on laser safety, we encourage you to visit the Laser Safety web site provided by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. You are welcome to borrow books or videos on safety topics from the collection of the Safety Committee as well.
